Great thoughts! Thanks for sharing, what you've written mirrors my own (developing) thoughts on social networking platforms, specifically on the erosion of civility, discourse, and democracy.

I hesitate to suggest I'm more jaded than you Sebastian, but I don't actually see regulations or limitations being placed on these platforms. I see a new brand of politics (lets call it trumpism) that has learned how to shamelessly milk division and chaos for its own gain without even a hint of morality or scruples. These platforms and the echo chambers they produce are too useful of a tool in the toolbox for the fat cats who understand the potential of their political gain, especially because of their seemingly benign or even folksy nature (grandpa will love seeing my picture of this cat).

So, in summary, instead of seeing legislators doing their job to protect society as a whole from a fate worse than death, I see western democracy hurtling towards a dystopian future not unlike "1984" or "Fahrenheit 451". :)
